Channel masking in photoshop

Some complex images aren’t managed well with the clipping path technique, Magic wand tool, and object selection tool. In those issues, masking is helping one to achieve the targeted result. Channel masking is very helpful to make a selection in difficult image areas like hair, animals, tree, grass, natural scenery, etc.

To remove the background by channel masking in photoshop go to the channels panel. If we don`t see the channel panel then go to the Window menu and checkmark the Channel. Any image consists of RGB colors (Red, Green, and Blue color). Now we will see which channel is the best contrast.

We can see the blue channel is the best contrast. We will work on the blue channel. Duplicate the blue channel. Turn on the blue copy channel and hide the blue channel. Go to the level window by clicking the image menu then Adjustment now level. Make the subject more noticeable. Click on OK. Using the brush tool paint black color on the subject(grass). Click on load channel as selection and then the brighter part will be selected. Click on the RGG channel. Hide the blue copy and other channels will be turned on. Click on the layer menu. Go to select menu and click on Inverse. Now the subject is selected. Click on Add Laye Mask. The background is removed.
